Parallel Operations Flashcards
Mode 1
Independent parallel approaches
No radar separation
Mode 2
Dependent parallel approaches
1000ft vertical/3nm separation
Main difference between independent and dependent parallel approaches
Independent = relies on procedures for separation
Dependent = relies on radar to provide separation
One runway used for approaches and one runway used for departures
Segregated parallel operations
One runway used exclusively for departures and other used for approaches and departures
Semi mixed operations
Aircraft departing in same direction from parallel runways simultaneously
Simultaneous instrument departures
ATS surveillance system separation minima between ac using published instrument approach procedures
Dependent parallel approaches
ATS Surveillance system separation minima between aircraft without prescribed approach procedures
Mode 1 independent
No Transgression Zone
Mode 1 no radar separation therefore used to determine if ac deviates too far from ILS localiser course
Mode 2 Dependent Parallel Approach - distances on same runway and different runway
Radar separation - 3nm on same runway
Radar separation - 2nm different runways
What ICAO Doc is used for parallel runway ops
ICAO Doc 9843
(Decreasing numbers like towards touching down)
What would the controller do if an aircraft enters the NTZ
Issue control instructions for the threatened aircraft on adjacent approach to go around and direct away from
Segregated operations how much should tracks diverge on departure
30 degrees
Semi Mixed
One rwy for dep
One rwy for dep and arrivals
Segregated ops
Mode 4
One rwy for app
One rwy for dep
