Papillomaviridae Flashcards
What type of genome does Papillomaviridae have?
circular dsDNA
non enveloped
icosohedral
What is the virus affecting dogs in the Papillomaviridae family?
Papillomavirus
what tissues does the canine papillomavirus target?
Skin, lip and mucous membrane warts – genitals, respiratory tract also
squamous epithelium
what is the only age group that is susceptible to CPV?
Young dogs < 1 year
Older dogs, even if unvaccinated will not get it
What is the progression of COPV?
small, smooth papular elevation on lip –> buccal mucosa, tongue, hard palate and walls of pharynx –> irregular surface (cauliflower shape is typical) –> Hyperplasia of keratin seen first, virus is not detected yet –> virus stimulates mitosis of cell proliferation
Where can you see viral aggregates of COPV?
Stratum granulosum and upper part of stratum spinosum of degenerated cells
cytoplasmic and nuclear inclusions!
T/F
Intramuscular and subcutaneous introduction of CPV will cause immediate infection
False
IM or SQ exposure will not transmit –> induces immunity!
How is CPV transmitted?
rubbing pieces or filtrates of tumor tissues onto scarified oral mucosa
close contact
Is there a vaccine available for CPV?
Yes – not recommended unless there is high incidence of papillomas in a kennel
Inactive virus vaccines available
