Adenoviridae Flashcards
What kind of DNA does an adenovirus have?
dsDNA
icosahedral nucleocapsid
no envelope
What is unique about adenoviridae composition?
Only virus with fiber protruding from each of the 12 pentons
Fiber = structure of attachment to host cells + type of specific hemagglutinin
What is the virus that causes infectious canine hepatitis? also known as?
Mastadenovirus
Canine adenovirus -1 (CAV-1)
Can adenovirus hemagglutinate the host RBC?
Yes
How is CAV-1 different from CAV-2 in clinical presentation?
CAV-2 causes respiratory infection
CAV-1 – hepatitis
How is CAV-1 transmitted?
Oronasal route
contact, fomites, ectoparasites
body tissues and secretions of infected dogs
Urine (6-9 months) after recovery
What age group is more susceptible to CAV-1?
dogs less than 1 year old
What tissue is prime target for CAV-1 replication?
Liver parenchyma
Vascular endothelium
What are some major clinical signs of canine hepatitis?
Fever coughing pneumonia subcutaneous edema epistaxis eye infection CNS signs
Is there a vaccine available for CAV?
yes
modified live for CAV-1 and CAV-2
How do you diagnose CAV?
Clinical signs and pathology *intranuclear inclusion bodies virus isolation *ELISA IFA *PCR
What major organs are affected by canine adenovirus?
Liver
Kidney
Eye
Vessel endothelium
What is blue eye with CAV?
corneal edema from uveitis
may be from Ag-Ab immunocomplex in eye
