What is an outcome goal?
Outcome goal is concerned with the end result of the performance, often in comparison to other performers, e.g. the goal is to win the game
What is a task orientated goal?
Task orientated goals are concerned with the task at hand, with the aim being the successful completion of the task, e.g. the goal could be to complete a marathon
What are performance related goals?
Performance related goals are concerned with the standard of performance, e.g. the goal is to run 5km in 15 minutes
What is a process goal?
Process goals are concerned with the technique required for a successful performance, e.g. to execute the movement of each body part correctly when completing a squat
What does goal setting help achieve?

- Confidence and self-efficacy
- Controlling arousal and anxiety
- Monitoring performance
What is the SMARTER principle?
The SMARTER principle is a useful way of remembering the key characteristics of effective goal-setting
