mechanism of action
produces complete muscular relaxation by binding to the receptor for acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, w/o initiating depolarization of the muscle membrane

indications
introduction or maintenance of paralysis after intubation to assist ventilations
contraindications
inability to control airway
side effects
tachycardia, dysrhythmia, hypotension, and hypertension

IV: 0.1 mg/kg slow iv; repeat every 30-60 min as needed
special considerations
antidote: neostigmine
