Palpitations Flashcards
Palpitations Definition
CAM: unduly rapid action of HT felt by PT and accompanied by nervousness
DENG: throbbing of HT, flusteredness of the HT or stirring of HT due to fright
notice HT + it doesnt feel right Types: Fright: entry level palp; HT skipped a beat Fearful: feel HT/palp down to umbilicous Stirring: see on outside chest
Palpations Etiology
Qi, yin and Yang can all be deficient
Def Ht Qi= bld stasis
wate qi rising
evil qi disturbing HT
Excess Palpitation Patterns
excesses but have yang deficiency signs
Phlegm Rhuem collecting
Water Qi Intimidating Heat
Heart Impediment
Heart Vessel obstruction
Phlegm -Rheum collecting
pathogenic, phlegmy fluids collecting, shen cloudiness, dizziness, no appetite. chest feels full, vomiting/spitting of a lot of clear fluids (classic), boborygmous, sloppy stools. fear of cold on back, phlegm obstructing energy to chest
CAM: phlegm heat harassing mind= mania wc can cause palps
Water-qi intimidating the HT
see in skilled nursing facilities
pathogenic fluids failing to transform into blood, jin, yin.
Lodges in chest/diaphragm. Interferes w/ clear shing of HT yang
hasty breathing, inability to lie flat, puffy, swelling, yang def Sxs: bright white face, floating edema, inhibited urine-looks like propping Rheum, green/blue or purple complexion and lips
Heart Impediment
Might be HT vessel obstruction
Pain less likely to be radiating than vessel obstruction
stoppage in vessel d/t yang failure to move blood, Worse at night or with exertion, HX of enduring w-c damp or w-h, joint pain, panting, SOB, Depression, spasmodic, maybe accumulation of fluids
Heart Vessel obstruction
See chest pain
Vacuity Palpitation Patterns
HT and GB Timidity HT Qi Xu Heart Yang XU Heart Yang Vacuity Depression Heart Blood Xu Heart Yin XU
HT and GB Xu Timidity
Person startles easily. Small GB= little courage (GB timidity
=indecisiveness) frequent dreaming/easy waking, no appetite. More common in Women and Children
CAM= disturbance of mind in timid people
Heart Qi XU
Worse w/ movmnt, SOB, pale face, dizziness, fatigue, Laziness in speaking (w/o HT signs looks like Qi def)
T: pale fat
P: vacuous
Heart Yang Xu
palps more severe w/ mvmnt +
cold signs, fluids not being pulled around- cld see congestion as result, chest oppression or pain
T: pale, fat, tender purple (w/ blood stasis ?)
Heart Yang Vacuity Desertion
terminal stage, profuse, drippy sweat, limb reversal, SOB, cyanotic, expiring pulse, Clouded spirit: consciousness not home
if sudden, is also HT Qi Def
Heart Blood Xu
palpitations, Shen lacks nourishment, insomnia, forgetfulness, dreaming, pale face, no luster, pale lips, nails
T: pale, thin, tender, thin coat, may be dry
P: fine, weak (HT d/n have enough)
heart Yin Xu
Next step after Heart Blood Xu= 5 palm heat, yin def heat signs= difference from blood Xu
Thin rapid
CAM on HT palp patterns
Hyperactivity of Fire d/t yin def= HT/KI not communicating
Insuf of qi/blood= student pattern= dual vacuity of HT/SP=HT Bld Def/SP Qi Def= SP not transforming food
->bld def-> HT Bld Def
HT/GB def timidity= disturbance of mind in timid people
