Members may wear their hair not to exceed
2 inches in depth on both sides and top

Ponytail or similar style
No decorations shall be worn
In your hair. Pins, clips, combs or fasteners shall never be exposed or visible through the hair or on the surface of the head. Hair clips or pins that match the color of the hair may be worn. No pins, combs or other items (rubber, plastic, ribbons) may be used to secure wigs or hair which presents a safety hazard to members
If bangs are worn they will be maintained no longer than
Mid forehead level. At no time will bangs be allowed to interfere with the seal of the mask facepiece or protective helmet.
When wearing a helmet of Fire Department uniform cap, no hair shall be visible
Below the front of the helmet or cap
Mustaches are permitted but shall conform to the following
- Must be closely trimmed
- Must not extend beyond the corners of the mouth
- Must not extend below any portion of the upper lip
Beards or goatees are
NOT permitted
Sideburns shall be kept
Neatly trimmed and close to the face
They shall not extend below the lower extremity of the ear
When members are in violation
- Command Discipline or Formal Charges
- Member than given a direct order to conform to grooming standards
- If member refuses to conform additional charges shall be preferred and the officer shall relieve the member from duty
- Company journal entry made
Chief and Company Officers are responsible for the enforcement of these regulations. When violations are detected and investigation reveals that subordinate officers have tolerated violation of these standards
Disciplinary actions including charges shall be taken for failure to properly supervise
Advise and counsel may be obtained by forwarding a
Written request for information to the OSHA Office, FDNY Headquarters
