What are the paediatric symptoms to ask about? (9)
- Diarrhoea and Vomiting
- Soiling/Enuresis

- Behavioural disorder

What features do you want to consider in the paeds diarrhoea and vomiting Hx? (7)
- How much, how often, any at night?
- Colour, consistency and contents? (mucous, blood (diarrhoea), bile (vomiting) )
- Weight loss/appetite
- Associaciated feature: abdominal pain
Paeds specific (checking for hydration): - Wet nappies
- Fluid intake
- Drowsiness
What features do you want to consider in the paeds soling/enuersis Hx? (7)
- Primary or Secondary
- Full account of toilet training
- School toileting behaviours
- Protest behaviour (stressful/chaotic life)
- If soiling - faeces consistency (constipation/ diarrhoea)
- Any painful anal conditions? e.g. anal fissure
- If enuresis: have they ever had a dry night? (then you can determine if primary or secondary)
What features do you want to consider in the paeds failure to thrive/weight loss Hx? (12)
- Ask to see growth chart
- Input: Detailed dietary Hx, Feeding history, hunger
- Use: Energy/Activity level
- Output: Wet nappies, Stools
- Chronic cough- think of CF
- Recurrent infections - think of CF, primary ciliary dyskinesia, immunological
- Sweating/breathless when feeding - think of cardiac
- Behaviour
- General Health
- Happiness
- Parents health
- Ask about associated GI symptoms

- Ask to see growth chart
- Input: Detailed dietary Hx, feeding Hx, hunger
- Use: Energy/Activity levels
- Output: Wet nappies, stools
- Hypothyroidism symptoms
- Cushing’s syndrome symptoms
- Syndromic symptoms e.g. Laurence-Moon, Prader Willi
