What is Amblyopia?
Decreased vision in a single eye due to poor alignment of the eyes that is not corrected, clouding of the lens or being near/far sighted
What is the treatment for Amblyopia?
Eye glasses or patching which forces the child to use the weaker eye and strengthen it, treatment is necessary in childhood as otherwise the eye will never recover
What is a squint/Strabismus?
When the eyes point in different directions
Is a squint common?
Yes, it affects around 1 in 20 children
What are the symptoms?
Can cause blurred or double vision
What is the risk?
Can develop into Amblyopia in which there is a faulty connection between the eye and the brain
What is the treatment of Squint?
Glasses, eye exercises, botulinum toxin injections, surgery, or patching
What in-utero infections can cause cataracts?
Chicken pox or rubella
