point
Macbeth’s guilt caused by the murders is presented once again during the pivotal banquet scene, when his anxious conscience imagines the ghost of Banquo.
evidence
In response to seeing this Macbeth says, “Never shake thy gory locks at me”.
analysis
The word choice of “gory” means bloody and battered, this tells the audience Macbeth is seeing Banquo in his murdered state. Shakespeare uses this to show the extent of Macbeth’s guilt, as he even conjures up a vision of his friend’s murdered body despite not having seen the actual killing.

This further makes Macbeth a captivating character as the audience is witnessing his calm facade deteriorate and are watching his mental state rapidly decline.
