Q

What envrionmental imact does using non-renewable resouces have?

A

Fossil fules are the main contributor, they release greenhouse gasses into the environment, which can damage ecosystems and destroy natural life

Q

What environmental imact does using renewable resources have?

A

By using renewable sources of energy you are not contribuing to the rising issue of global warming/ climate change & you are using a souce of energy that is enviromentally friendly, benifiting the environment alot.

Q

What is nuclear power?

A

Nuclear power is the use of nuclear energy reactions to produce electricity. The majority of nuclear power is produced by the nuclear fission of uranium in nuclear power plants.

Q

What is wind power?

A

Power generated by wind turbines being spun by the wind/ convection currents the earths atmosphere which are driven by the heat energy of the sun, the turbines being spun cause an attached generator become driven to produce power.

Q

What is wave power?

A

Power generated by the kinetic energy of the waves moving turbines that spin and transfer the waves kinetic energy into electrical energy.

Q

What is tidal power?

A

Power generated by the movement of the tide/ ocean by the gravity applied to the sea by the moon. By a really strong flow of water & a tide moving up/down, turbines connected to a generator are spun, therefore converting the kintetic energy of the tide into electricity which can be transported to the mainland.

Q

What is hydroelecteric power?

A

Hydroelectric power is similar to tidal where it harnesses the power of the movement of the ocean to generate electricity. They instead use dams to accumulate mass ammounts of water to rush down small tubes that drive electrical generators to generate power.

Q

What is geothermal power?

A

Power generated by hot water and steam from deep underground. The heat energy heats water and it naturally rises as hot water and steam which can be used to drive turbines and generators to generate power

Q

What is biofuel?

A

Biofuel is produced by natual products like plants’ biomass and biowaste. Its considerd a very strog competitor for fossil fuels and is theoretically carbon neutral.
