What is a Life Hazard
The existence of a process or condition that would likely cause serious injury or death to exposed persons.
What is a Life Hazard Zone
A system of barriers surrounding designated areas at an incident scene that is intended to stop fire personnel and other responders from entering a potentially life threatening hazardous area.
What is a life hazard lookout
A qualified person located where they can safely observe a Life Hazard, monitor resources and personnel in the area, and communicate with resources keeping them a safe distance away. The Lookout will also isolate and deny entry to any responders or resources until the Life Hazard is mitigated and the IC approves the release of the life hazard zone

or staff personnel to work in excess of 64 consecutive hours.
c. If they are sick or injured. If these reasons are claimed for an exemption, the
employee shall obtain a doctor’s release before returning to regularly scheduled duty.
d. To work Christmas or Christmas Eve, if they are already scheduled to work either
day.
e. To work Christmas or Christmas Eve, if they were force hired to work either day the
previous year.
f. Staff personnel are exempt from being force hired on weekdays (Mon.–Fri.), holidays,
or when assigned to on-call or stand-by status.
g. ROSS duty officers, crew chief captains in the ASU, captain and crew bosses on the
hand crew, and the public information officer, are exempt from force hire at all times.
