Oxygen Flashcards
LARGE A/C HAEV TO INDEPENDENT OXG
~ ONE FOR CREW (USING BOTTLE COMPRESSED O2)
~ONE FOR THE PASSENGER CABIN (USING CHEMICAL O2)
In addion portable oxg cylinders are located
2% for passenger and min of 2 units
2hours of supply for crew
16/20 min for pax but requirment is only 10min
Passenger oxg masks must be capable of being automatically deployed before the cabin altitude exceeds 15000ft
Crew oxg supllies
Gaseous oxg
Oxg is stored at 1800psi
Reduced to 80 -100psi for distribution
Reduce to 8 to 10 psi at each crew mask
Flight crew mask
Diluter regulator
~normal mxiture of 02 and air
~proportiona O2 increases with altitude autmatically
100%oxg
~at 32000ft mask is 100% o2
~100% switch bypasses mixer unit
~emergency: 100% oxg supllied at postive pressure to prevent inwards leakage of cabin air
Chemical oxg generator
The number of masks, are the number of seating +10%
~contains mix of sodium chlorate and iron powder
~pulling the lanyard fires the mechanism and ignites
~chemical genrators can supply up to 6 masks
Pulse ox system
Like on a350
There is a bottle for 4 seats
Small a/c pax emergency oxg
~normally use a central supply of gaseous oxg fro crew and passengers
~tables in the flight manula allow the crwe to clauclte the duration
Portable oxg (crew)
~storage 1800psi
~capacity 120litres
The equipment allows two flow settings
~normal»_space;a flow of two litres per minute, duration60min
~high»_space;a flow of four litres per minute ,duration 30min
Personal smoke protection
~smoke hood device similar to a gas mask
~intended to protect victims of fire from the effects of smoke inhalation
Eu regulation»
~flight crew use smoke goggles in conjuction with their oxg masks
~filtration occurs twice: once inhalation and then agin on exhalation
Oxygen doesnt burn but it does vigorously intensify any fire
Oxg sys precaution
~oxg storage moisture content
~oxg must be as dry as possibile
~moisture may cause valves to freeze and could also lead to corrosion
~oxg sys labelling ~aviation oxg bottles are panted either Black with a white neck Or Green and stamped with letter AVO2 to signify it is fit for aviation use
Other standard do not meet requires aviation standards
Pros and cons
CHEMICAL
~ SMALL AND LIGHT TO STORE
~ONCE IT IS TRIGGERED CAN NOT BE TURNED OFF
GASEOUS:
~ABLE TO TURN ON AND OFF
~EASILY DILUTED WITH CABIN AIR
~HAVY TO STORE AND CARRY
