Cap 3 , Subsidiary Airframe Structures Flashcards

1
Q

Aircraft floor

A

Supported by aluminium alloy cross beams.
Floor panels are laid over the beams
Panels are light alloy or composite.
Freighter require strengthened floors.
Floors have vents panels to equalise the pressure between the cabin and cargo hold in case of decompression

Q

What type are the large a/c doors?

A

Plugged type and needs to withstand internal forces.
The greater the pressure differential between the cabin and atmosphere the tighter the seal .
Pins and stops ensure security and transmit door loads to the the rest of the fuselage.
Outward opening doors require an inflatable seal or rubber cuff to ensure a pressure seal

Q

Flight deck windows?

A

Good optical vision
Must have the ability to absorb impact without failure, heating will improve stiffness.
In case of a partial failure of the windows may need to reduce the the diff pressurisation

Q

Passenger cabin windows

A

Made from acrylic material.
Comprises of 3 layers
Inner panel is not a structural, either outer and middle are capable of taking all the the pressurisation load alone.
Middle panel designated to withstand 1.5 x normal pressure
