Aircraft Construction Flashcards
Material attachment method?
Riveting Welding Bolting Pinning Adhesives Composite fastenerd and bonding
Monocoque construction?
Frames to give shape and skin to withstand loads.
Semi monocoque construction?
A/c skin provides aerodynamic shape and withstands tension and compression stresses
• Formers/frames: Define the shape and provide skin attachment points.
• Stringers:Run longitudinally and are bonded to the skin. Help withstand buckling
• Longerons:Main longitudinal load bearing members of the fuselage also withstand bending loads
• Bulkheads: Provide structural partitions inside the fuselage and give structural support
• Firewall: A fire resistant bulkhead installed between engine compartment and the rest of the airframe structure
For What are used the reinforced shell strictures?
• Outer skin is reinforced by a complete framework of internal members • Weaker areas around windows and doors are reinforced with frames and
stringer sections know as Intercostels • These components are attached of the stressed skin, usually with rivets
What is a Machined structure?
Single piece of aluminium forms a skin like stringer structure
