Oxidative Phosphorylation Flashcards
1
Q
What do electrons use to move?
A
Sulphur centres in the complexes.
2
Q
What happens at Complex 1?
A
NADH -> NAD+ - 4H+ pumped
Uniquinone carries 2H to complex 3, where it is oxidised.
3
Q
What happens at Complex 2?
A
Succinate -> fumerate
-Reduces UQ, which goes to complex 3.
Itsnt a pump, no H+ transfer.
4
Q
What happens at Complex 3?
A
Oxidises 2UQ, one each from complex 1 and 2.
4H+ pumped by it in total.
5
Q
What happens at cytochrome c?
A
Used by complex 3 to transfer electrons to complex 4, a reversible process.
6
Q
What happens at Complex 4?
A
Reduces oxygen with 4 electrons, to turn it into water.
2H+ pumped.
