overview-of-the-lower-limb - part 2 Flashcards
Where is the politeal fossa located ? and what are its boundaries:
Superomedially, superolaterally, inferiorly and the roof
Located behind the knee
Superomedially - Semimembraneous
Supereolaterally - biceps femoris
inferiorly - Gastrocnemius
roof - politeal fascia
Describe the lymphatic drainage of the lower limb
Superificially it follows the saphenous veins:
For small saphenous it goes to the politeal lymph nodes first but they both go to the superificial inguinal lymph nodes ===> then to the external iliac lymph nodes
Deep:
- (popliteal lymph nodes)
- deep inguinal lymph nodes
- external iliac lymph nodes
•
Describe the hip joint and what type of joint is it ?
Head of femur and acetabulum articulate
It is a synovial joint
What are the ligaments of the hip joint ?
- Iliofemoral
- Pubofemoral
- Ischiofemoral
What is the main blood supply to the hip ?
The medial and lateral circumflex arteries
Describe the main ligaments of the knee and other structures
- Inside the knee - ACL and PCL and medial/lateral menisci
- Outside - lateral and medial collateral ligaments
- Patellar ligament
*
What is the achillies tendon ?
It is the tendons of the gastrocnemius and soleus combined
