Overview, Blood Supply, & Spinal Cord--Exam I (Practicum) Flashcards
What is Gray Matter?
Areas of neuronal cell bodies and synapses
What are the three parts to the brainstem?
Midbrain, Pons, Medulla
What is white matter?
Areas mostly composed of myelinated axons
What are the 5 lobes of the cerebrum?
- Frontal 2. Parietal 3.Temporal 4. Occipital 5. Insular
Where is the corpus callosum? What is its function?
It connects the two hemispheres, all White Matter. Looks like a slide on top of limbic system under hemispheres
Where are the optic radiations? Fxn?
Look in posterior of brain, from a inferior view. White matter that relays visual info to the primary visual cortex
Where is the Internal Capsule? Fxn?
White matter fibers that extend from the brian down. Look for “greater then” sign in transverse section.
What divides the frontal lobe and the parietal lobe?
The central sulcus
What divides the temporal lobe from both the frontal lobe and the parietal lobe?
The Lateral Sulcus
Which lobe do you find if you wedge the lateral sulcus open?
The Insular Lobe (The Insula)
What is the area that is receptive to language? About where do I find it?
Wernicke’s Area, mostly temporal lobe, some of parietal lobe
Which area takes part in forming out going speech. Where might I find it?
Bro-Ca’s area. In the frontal lobe
What is the tissue that separates the two hemispheres?
The Great Longitudinal Fissure
What is the function of the pre central gyrus?
Primary Motor Cortex
What is the function of the post central gyrus?
Primary SomatoSensory Cortex
