A

AUSTRIA
- army limited to 30,000 volunteers, no navy or air force
- did not pay much in reparations as its economy was weak
- Austro-Hungarian Empire dismantled
- prohibited from forming alliances with other nations
- lots of land lost (eg Tyrol lost to Italy)
- Austria’s population fell from 22 million to around 6 million

- army limited to 35 000
- Apart from some shipments of coal, Hungary could not meet the demands for reparations. As a result, payments were suspended.

o Lost 26% of population
o Lost 74% of iron ore and coal
o Reparations of 300 million roubles
o Lost Lithuania and Estonia, which were important farming land
- Germany had forced a very harsh treaty on Russia when they defeated hem in 1918 so why should Versailles be any less hars
