other studies of cultral variations Flashcards
Simonella et al 2014
aim
conducted a study in Italy to see whether the proportions of babies of different attachment types still matches those found in previous studies
Simonella et al 2014
procedure
researchers assed 76 12 moth olds using the SS
Simonella et al 2014
findings
50% secure
36% insecure avoidant
a lower rate of secure attachment then that found before
Simonella et al 2014
conclusion
due to more mothers working long hours and using childcare
suggest that cultural changes can make a dramatic difference to patterns of secure / insecure attachment
Jin et al 2012
aim
conducted a study to compare the proportions of attachment types in Korea to other studies.
Jin et al 2012
procedure
SS used to assess 87 children
Jin et al 2012
findings
the overall proportions of insecure and secure babies were similar to those in most countries with most infants being secure .
however most of those classified as insecure attached were resistant and only one child was avoidant
this distribution is similar to those founding Japan by van ijzendoorn and krronberg in 1998
Jin et al 2012
conclusion
since Japan and Korea have similar child rearing styles this similarity might be explained in terms of child rearing style
