attachment figures a03 Flashcards
children w out fathers
limitation
grossman 2002
found that fathers as secondary attatcthment figures had an important role in their children development
however other studies
macCallum and Golombok 2004
found that children growing up in single sex parent families do not develop any differently from those in a two parent heterosexual family
suggests that the fathers role as a secondary attacthment figure is not important
fathers primary attachments - hormones
limitations
the fact that fathers tend not to become the primary attachment figure could simply be the result of traditional gender roles in which women are meant to be more caring then men , therefore fathers don’t feel the need to act like that
on the other hand it could be because female hormones such as oestrogen crate higher levels of nurturing and therefore women are biologically predisposed to be the primary attachment figure
