Q

Clindamycin
(Inhibits protein synthesis - bacteriostatic)
(Strept, Staph (MSSA, MRSA), C perfringens, B fragilis)

A
Binds to 50S subunit, inhibiting translocation of tRNA
Admin: Oral
High penetration, incl bone (exl CSF)
Hepatic Excretion
Works against Gram + and anaerobes

Q

Aminoglycosides
(Inhibits protein synthesis - bacteriostatic –> bacteriocidal)
(Pseudomonas, E coli, (Enterococci when in combo with Pen/Amp) )

A

Binds 30S subunit, inhibits initiation of translation, breakup of polysomes, and misreading the code
Admin: Parenteral (IV)
Concentrated in ECF, poor penetration in CNS/eye - accumulates in renal cortex and inner ear
Renal Excretion

Q

Resistance

A

AGs - anaerobes are resistant (as entry into bacteria is mediated by O2); Gram - plasmid uptake that mediates chemical modification of the drug/limit drug uptake
