Other Cardiac Diseases Flashcards
Floppy Valve Syndrome
Ballooning of the posterior mitral leaflet due to redundant tissue, and chords are elongated.
Result: sudden death, infective endocarditis, mitral regurg
Non bacterial thrombotic endocarditis
Sterile fibrinous valvular deposits
Due to: endocardial trauma /DIC
Result: embolism
Valvular degeneration caused by Calcification
1-> Calcific aortic stenosis
2-> Calcific stenosis of congenital bicuspid aortic valve
Due to: stenosis, low CO
Result: concentric LV hypertrophy, angina, syncope, congestive heart failure.
Systemic lupus erythematosus
Libman-sacks endocarditis
Due to: Immunce complex deposit
Affects: atria, ventricular endocardium
Pericarditis
Aet: inflam/ neoplastic -> friction, effusions
Result: decreased heart sounds, chronic inflam
Cause: infection:
Trauma bacterial
RHD viral
Autoimmune fungal
Uraemia
Myocardial Infarct
Myocarditis
Inflam of myocardium
Signs: fever, tachycardia
Path: dilated/large, firm/mottled, haemorrhage
Cause: noninfectious

Viral uraemia
Fungal sarcoid
Protozoal transplant rejection
Rickettsial autoimmune
