- Iago will find anything to degrade a woman’s character
- these opinions are used to trick Othello later on

- Iago is the spider and Cassio and Desdemona are the flies that get themselves caught in the trap as Desdemona keeps talking about Cassio to Othello, further confirming Othello’s suspicions

hath her content so absolute that not another comfort like to this succeeds in unknown fate.”-Othello
- ironic as this is in fact the best that it gets and it goes downhill from here.
- Othello is correct here

directly in love with him”-Iago

- keeping Roderigo in his grasps and gets him to contribute in the plan for Cassio to lose his job and eventually the murder plot
- Iago manipulating tog et what he wants

- Iago says that just as the devil is black so too is Othello
- Increases Roderigo’s hate for Othello by depicting him in such a bad light

-convince Roderigo that Desdemona is in love with Cassio
-show the extent at which Iago is able to manipulate peoples thoughts and opinions to suit his own desires

-characterisation. showing her how much of a vengeful person Iago is and spiteful he is and how he is unable to let someone be happy

- he doesn’t have enough evidence to prove his points
- so he must play mental games with Othello
- showing how manipulative Iago is
