Stress Fx
(March fx) Is a crack in the bone results from too much tress being place on bone.Often does not show on 1st x-ray.
Butterfly Fx
is a type of comminuted fx in which the bone is broken into fragments. Involves 2 fragments on each side of a central fragment shape like a butterfly/ Usually caused by high energy force
Avulsion Fx
Fx at the point where the tendon or ligament insert in bone. The tendon or ligament breaks away a portion of bone. usually caused by forced extremity bending abnormally
Transverse Fx
Is a horizontal fx across the long axis of bone. refer as simple fx. Often occurs from a direct blow to the bone. tends to stay in aliment
Oblique Fx
The Fx line is at an angle to the long axis of the bone. Tends to be unstable and rare. Usually caused by a twisting motion.
Spiral Fx
( Torsion Fx) Is caused by a twisting motion. the Fx that extends up and down the bone like a corkscrew. Is highly unstable.
GreenStick Fx
Involves a beak in one side of the cortex of bone. Is also an incomplete fx seen in children. Are stable and heal w/out any complication
Impacted Fx
An end of a broken bone is driven into the other end of bone.
Comminuted Fx
Is a fx of the bone that is broken into more than 2 pieces
Depressed Fx
Occurs when the bone is pressed in. Usually occurring in the skull.
Intra-Articular Fx
refers to an injury in which the bones inside a joint is Fx
Simple Fx
A fx where the bone is normal alignment and not through the skin
Spontaneous Fx
( Pathological Fx.)A break that occurred w/out trauma,
Stellate Fx
A break that the Fx radiates from a central Fx site.
Compound Fx
A fx where a piece of bone penetrates the skin, and fragment is exposed
Fissure Fx
A crack in the surface of a bone that does not extend through the bone
Sprain Fx
A type of avulsion fx when a piece of bone is pulled away when a tendon is separated from its insertion point.
Trophic Fx
a fx resulting from nutritional deficits
