Forearm and wrist Fx Flashcards
Barton Fx
An intra-articular Fxof the dorsal rim of the distal radius, usually resulting in subluxation of the radial carpal joint w/ the fx site fragment
Chauffeur’sFx
( Backfure , Hutchinson and Lorry driver’s Fx ) oblique fx of the radial styloid caused by twisting or snapping-type injury;
Chisel Fx
Incomplete, usually involving medial head of the radius, w/ fx line extending distally about 1/2 inch.
Colles Fx
a Fx of distal radius, either articular or nonarticular, w/ dorsal angulation of the distal fragment producing a silver fork deformity; generally associated w/ a fx of the ulnar styloid.`
Corner Fx
a small bucket-handle-appearing fx in the distal metaphyseal corner in a young child, often associated w/ child abuse
De Quervain Fx
combination of a wrist scaphoid fragment and lunate.
Dye-punch Fx
an Intra-articular fx of the ulnar (volar) portion of the distal radius, usually caused by direct impaction of the lunate into the lunate fossa of the distal radius.
Essex-lopresti Fx
a comminuted radial head fx w/ an injury to the distal radiounlnar joint due to disruption of the interosseous membrane. which can cause a proximal migration of the radius if the radial head is excised 2ndary.
Galeazzi Fx
( Monteggia fx, dupuytren Fx, Piedmont Fx)typically a displaced fx of the distal thrid or 1/4 of the radius w/ disruption of the distal raioulnar joint, called fx of nesessity because surgical fixation is required for reduction;
Kocher Fx
Fx of capitellum of distal humerus w/ possible displacement of fragment into joint.
Laugler Fx
isolated fx of the trochlea of the humerus at the elbow
Lead pipe Fx
typically in the forearm, a combo of greenstick and torus fx in the immature shaft of the bone and have the appearance of a slightly bent pipe.
Lenteneur’s Fx
A distal radial fx of thepalmar rim, similar to smith type 2 fx
Monteggia Fx
isolated fx of proximal third of ulna, w/ posterior or anterior dislocation of radial head allowing angulation and overriding of ulnar fragments
Moore Fx
Like a colles fx; specifically, fx of distal radius w/ dorasal displacment of ulnar styloid and impingement under annular ligament
Mouchet Fx
Involves Humeral capitellum
Nightstick Fx
Undisplaced fx of the ulnar shaft caused by a direct blow. Is a defencive wound
Piedmont Fx
Oblique fx usually at the proximal portion of distal third of the radius; obliquity runs from proximal ulnar to distal radial aspect, allowing distal fragments to be pulled into the ulna by the pronator quadratus muscel; fx of neccessity.
Radial head fx
Involves the most proximal part of the radius, a dish-shape portion of the bone
Radial styloid fx
involves the distal radial tip of radius
Reverse Barton Fx
Dorsal displacement of carpus on radius, w/ associated fx of dorsal articular surface of radius. The mechanism and appearance of this fx are similar to those of colles fx.
Skillern Fx
open fx of distal radius associated w. greenstick fx of distal ulna.
Smith Fx
(Reverse colles fx ) Fx of the distal radius in which the distal fragment is displaced volarly. this fx was defined b4 the advent of x-ray, and , classically there are 3 types
1-Nonarticular 2- Intra-articular ( volar barton fx ) 3- oblique nonarticular fx near the joint line.
