Osteoporosis Pharmacology Flashcards
MOA: Calcitonin - Salmon
Inhibits osteoclasts
MOA: Aledronate, Risedronate, Ibandronate, Zoledronic acid
Analog of pyrophosphate causing inhibition of bone resorption by causing osteoclast apoptosis
MOA: Raloxifene
SERM agonist for E on bone
MOA: Teriparatide
Increases activity of osteoclasts and blasts - when given in bursts, osteoblast formation predominates
MOA: Denosumab
Inhibits RANKL decreasing formation of osteoclasts
MOA: Cinacalcet
Binds CASR on PT gland increasing sensitivity to ECM Ca and decreasing PTH
Clinical application: Calcitonin - Salmon
