A

bone infection

haematogenous spread accounts for 20% of infections
vertebral column is the most common site
s. aureus is the most common culprit

signs:
pain
eryethma
warmth

bone biopsy is the definitive diagnostic tool
MRI is the most sensitive

Treatment:
prolonged period
4 weeks IV for adults
six weeks total therapy

Long bone:
flucloxacillin

vertebral:

ceftriaxone
vancomycin
