HIV Diagnosis
HIV1/2 immuno-assay
if positive:
HIV1/HIV2 antibody to determine type and confirm diagnosis
however, if negative it may be that the infection was too early and antibodies have not yet been prodcuced
if negative:
NAAT test
if positive HIV
if negative, initial result was a false positive
vaccinations in HIV
3 doses of hep B virus vaccine
both pneumococcal vaccines
MMR (live attenuated) only if cd4 counts greater than 200
Prophylaxis in HIV
bactrim if cd4 less than 200 (PCP)
bactrim if cd4 less than 100 (toxoplasmosis)
Azithromycin if cd4 less than 50 (mycobacterium)
treatment
generally 3 drugs
2 nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors
and
integrase inhibitor + Cobicistat (booster)
protease inhibitor + Ritonavir (booster)
truvada is tenofovir and emtricitabine
