Osteology: Norma Frontalis View Flashcards
anterior nasal spine
located on maxilla
bottom point of the nose hole
canine eminence
bump in maxilla that pokes out where the canines are
glabella
frontal bone
middle lower forehead, right where a third eye might go
infraorbital canal
floor of orbit, in the maxilla
carries infraorbital n, a, v
infraorbital foramen
the hole right below the orbits in the maxilla
transmits infraorbital n, a, v
inferior orbital fissure
inside the orbit, the long hole next to the infraorbital fissure, in the maxilla; transmits zygomatic branch of maxillary nerve
superior orbital fissure
inside the orbit, the oblong/8-shaped hole superior to the inferior orbital fissure, in the sphenoid
transmits CN III, IV, V1, VI, and opthalmic veins
optic foramen
inside the orbit, the hole just medial to the figure 8-shaped superior orbital fissure, in the sphenoid
transmits CN II and opthalmic artery
supraorbital foramen/notch
small hole right above the orbits, in the frontal bone
transmits supraorbital n, a, v
nasion
midpoint of fronto-nasal structure, at the most superior point where the nasal bones meet the frontal bone
superciliary arch
right above supraorbital margin, the eyebrow spot, on the frontal bone
mental foramen
in the mandible, transmits mental n, a, v
temporal line
the temporal muscle inserts here, it forms its curved insertion point on the lateralis view; it’s the arch on either side of the face on the frontal bone above the orbits that connects with the zygomatic bone
zygomaticofacial foramen
a TINY foramen in the zygomatic bone, in a very lateral position, that transmits the zygomaticofacial n.
