Osteology For Block 2 Flashcards
What unique structure is on the lumbar vertebrae?
Mammillary process
Structures of the Sacrum
Sacral promontory
Ala
Anterior/Ventral sacral foramina
Posterior/Dorsal Sacral Foramina
Sacral hiatus
Sacral canal
Parts of the Coccyx
Transverse process
Cornua/Cornu
Alternate name for Hip Bone
Coxa (singular) Coxae (plural)
Coxae form the..
Pelvis
Parts of the Hip Bone/Coxa
Ilium, pubis, ischium
Parts of the ilium
Anterior gluteal line
Posterior Gluteal line
Ala
Posterior superior iliac spine
Posterior inferior iliac spine
Greater sciatic notch
Iliac crest
Anterior superior iliac spine
Inferior gluteal line
Anterior inferior iliac spine
Acetabulum (also part of Ischium and Pubis)
Parts of the Ischium
Ischial body
Ischial spine
Lesser sciatic notch
Ischial tuberosity
Ischial Ramus
Obturator foramen (also part of Pubis)
Acetabulum (also part of Ilium and Pubis)
Parts of Pubis
Acetabulum (also part of ilium and Ischium)
Pubic body
Inferior Ramus of pubis
Obturator foramen (part of Ischium as well)
What is the pubic symphysis?
Ligament between the two pubis of 2 Coxa
Where the sacrum meets the Coxae
Sacroiliac joint
Parts of the Pelvisl
Pubic symphysis
Iliac crest
Anterior superior iliac spine
Anterior inferior iliac spine
Pubic tubercle
Obturator foramen
Ischial spine
Greater sciatic notch
Lesser sciatic notch
Posterior superior iliac spine
Posterior inferior iliac spine
Ischial tuberosity
What is the iliolumbar ligament?
A ligament that attached the ilium (iliac crest) to the lumbar vertebra (transverse process of 5th lumbar)
What is the Inguinal ligament?
Band running from the Pubic Tubercle to the Anterior Superior Iliac Spine.
Important for operating on hernia patients.
What is the lacunar ligament?
ligament that connects the Inguinal Ligament to the Pubic Tubercle
When a portion of the small intestine enters the Inguinal canal
Inguinal hernia
What is the femoral triangle?
Nerve, artery, vein, empty space, and lymphatics
triangular depression inferior to the inguinal ligament
Site of femoral and Inguinal hernias
What is the supra spinous ligament?
Extends from the Ischial Spine to the inferolateral border of the sacrum (and a bit of the coccyx)
Located anterior to the sacrotuberous ligament
Converts greater sciatic notch into the greater sciatic foramen
Where is the sacrotuberous foramen?
Posterior to the sacropinous ligament
Extends from the medial border of the Ischial tuberosity to the superior iliac spine of the pelvic bone
Along the posterior and lateral border of the sacrum, then onto the posterolateral surface of the coccyx
Converts the lesser sciatic notch into the lesser sciatic foramen
What is the greater sciatic foramen?
Area where the greater sciatic notch creates an opening between the sacrum and Coxa.
Created by ligaments (sacropinous ligament and anterior sacroiliac ligament)
Which is larger, sacrospinous ligament or sacrotuberous ligament?
Sacrotuberous ligament
What is the lesser sciatic foramen?
Where the lesser sciatic notch is created into an opening between the pelvic bone, sacrum and coccyx.
Created by the sacrotuberous ligament
