Ossification Flashcards
What is our bones continuously doing
Our bones are contiounsly being reshaped through a process called remodelling
What is the process of bone growth
Ossification
What is ossification
This is the process where our bones are being reabsorbed through the removal of unnecessary calcium through cells called osteoclasts, while new layers of bone tissue is created
What are osteoblasts
Osteoblasts are cells that build up calcium in the bones and they responsible for producing bone marrow
Why do our calcium stores increase over time
This is an increased demand for calcium when we exercise
What are some activities that activate calcium stores
Walking, running or sport such as netball and basketball
