Define apnea?
At least a 90% anterior to posterior collapse of the airway greater than 10 seconds
How is hypopnea characterized?
Characterized by at least a 30% reduction in airflow > 10 seconds associated with oxygen desaturation or arousal on EEG
Should Down Syndrome and other conditions associated with hypotonia be screened for OSA?
Yes, and regardless of symptoms
What is the gold standard for diagnosing OSA?
PSG
If diagnosing OSA with the Apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) what number of events classifies for a diagnosis of OSA in adults?
> /= 15 events/hour
If diagnosing OSA with the Apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) what number of events classifies for a diagnosis of OSA in children?
mild= 1-4.9 events/hour and clinical sequelae
moderate = 5 - 9.9 events/hour
severe = 10+ hour
