ORGANIZATION OF CEREBRUM; LATERAL VENTRICLE Flashcards
Central part of lateral ventricle
Roof, floor medial relations
Roof: Undersurface of the body of the corpus callosum
Floor: • Body of the caudate nucleus
• Upper surface of thalamus
• Stria terminalis and thalamostriate vein occupying between them.
Medially : Anterior part of the septum pellucidum, but more behind roof and floor meet because the body of the corpus callosum comesin direct contact with the
body of the fornix
Anterior horn of lateral ventricle
Roof, floor, medial and anterior relations
Roof -under surface of anterior part of corpus callosum
Floor-formed by rostrum of the corpus callosum medially and head of the caudate
nucleus laterally
Medially -septum pellucidum
Anteriorly-genu of the corpus callosu,
Posterior horn of lateral ventricle
Roof + lateral wall, floor + medial wall elevations
Roof and lateral wall - Tapetum (fibers of corpus callosum), which separates optic radiation from the lateral wall of the posterior horn. Medial wall and floor - It shows two elevations. 1.The upper elevation is called ‘bulb of the posterior horn’ and it is produced by forceps major (fibers of splenium of corpus callosum). 2.The lower elevation is called ‘calcaravis’ and it is formed by anterior part of calcrine sulcus.
Inferior/ temporal horn
Roof, structures of floor.
Roof - 1.Tapetum of corpus callosum on the lateral side 2.tail of caudate nucleus 3.stria terminalis on the medial side 4. amygdaloid body in the anteriormost part of the roof. Floor - It shows two structures: 1. An elevation on the lateral side called ‘collateral eminence’, which is produced by inward projection of the intermediate part of the collateral sulcus. 2. Hippocampus is a prominent longitudinal elevation and lies medial to the collateral eminence
