What is health?
Health is your physical, mental and social wellbeing. If you are in good health, you are free from disease, able to carry out standard tasks, well fed, suitably housed etc.
What is disease?
Disease is a departure from good health caused by a malfunction of the mind/body.
What is a parasite?
A parasite is an organism that lives on another living thing, causing harm to its host. Harm by taking nutrition from host. Internal/External parasites.
What is a pathogen?
A pathogen is an organism that causes diseases.
What are bacteria like and what do they do?
Bacteria belong the kingdom Prokaryotae. Small cells which reproduce fast. Cause damage by damaging cells or releasing toxic waste.
What diseases can Fungi cause?
Tinea causes athlete’s foot and ringworm. Fungus lives in skin send out hyphae which grow to the surface of the skin to release spores – resulting in irritation.
What can viruses do to the body?
Viruses invade cells and take over the genetic machinery – cause cell to manufacture more copies of the virus – host cell bursts, releasing many viruses.
What can Protoctista do?
Enter host cells and feed on contents of the cell as they grow.
