A
Large scale criminal activities that are planned and controlled by powerful gangs

How did prohibition create gangsters?
A
- Created a huge public demand for illegal alcohol.
- Mafia families used prohibition to make lots of money and frequently fought for control over cities.
- There were gangsters in every city
- An estimated $2000 million worth of business was transferred from the brewing industry to bootlegers and gangsters.
- Money earned forced mobsters into money laundering
- Created more crime
- Lots of Prohibition-era money was funnelled into new casinos and hotels

- One of the most notorious gangsters
- Son of Italian immigrants

A
- 1920s: Ran bootlegging, prostitution and gambling rackets in Chicago.
- Controlled city officials i.e judges through bribery and intimidation

- Happened in 1929
- Capone ordered 4 oh his men (dressed as police officers to murder seven of his main rivals from Bugs Moran’s gang
