- NAACP appealed to Supreme Court for schools to be desegregated after Linda Brown’s father lost his case
- S.C outlawed segregation in schools
- Some states refused e.g Alabama, South Carolina

- MLK led boycott of Montgomery city buses after Parks was arrested for sitting in white-only section
- Got lots of publicity
- S.C outlawed segregated buses after business fell drastically
