Organelles and Tissues Flashcards
Tissues
formed by groups of specialized cells.
Four main types of tissues
Nervous tissue
Epithelial tissue
Muscle tissue
Connective tissue
Epithelial Tissue
Sheets of cells that cover the exterior surfaces of the body
- Lining of hollow organs (intestines)
- Epidermis (skin)
Muscle Tissue
Responds to stimulation and contracts to provide movement, and occurs as three major types:
- Skeletal (voluntary)
- Smooth
- Cardiac (heart)
Nervous Tissue
allows the propagation of electrochemical signals in the form of nerve impulses that communicate between different regions of the body
- Brain
- Spinal cord
- Nerves
Tissue Membranes
Thin layer or sheet of cells that cover the outside of the body, organs, internal passageways, and lining of moveable joint cavities
- Connective tissue
- Epithelial membranes
Connective Tissue
Binds the cells and organs of the body together and functions in protection, support, and integration of all parts of the body
Ribosomes
makes proteins
Lysosomes
disposes wastes
Golgi Apparatus
packages proteins ( Amazon prime drivers)
Mitochondria
makes energy (powerhouse)
Cell Membrane
Controls what goes in and out of cell
Nucleus
brain of the cell
