Oral Prep Questions Safety and Power Up Checklist Flashcards
What emergency equipment items should be checked at the observer location during the safety and power up check?
Observer seat, Observer O2, Observer headset
What airworthiness items are required to be in the aircraft flight deck and checked during the safety and power up check?
AFM, QRH, Gear Pins, Spare Bulb Kit,
Jumpseat, Observer Headset, Current Jepp Airside Set, Registration Certificate,
Airworthiness Certificate, FMS/EGPWS Handbook, Aircraft MX Can
Ensure the aircraft is not moved for how long after power up and IESS initialization?
90 seconds
What must be done if more displays than displays 2 & 3 are available after initial (BATT 1 ON / BATT 2 AUTO) power up?
Call MX, the airplane must not be dispatched
Where is the battery voltage checked (what display/page)?
MFD Status Page
What happens if the battery voltage is below 21.0 volts?
Call MX, do NOT depart
On knobs that have transient positions (e.g. Start) how many seconds are recommended that the respective knob is held in the transient position before releasing
the knob?
Two seconds
What should be verified before pushing the test button on the fire extinguisher panel?
Verify there are no fire protection fail messages on the EICAS
What indications are present/checked during the fire extinguisher panel test?
Aural
warning, Fire handle illuminated, CARGO SMOKE FWD/AFT illuminated, APU button
illuminated, Upper half of the APU emer stop button illuminated, WARNING lights
flashing, CARGO FWD (AFT) SMOKE EICAS message, APU FIRE EICAS message,
ENG 1(2) FIRE EICAS message, FIRE warning label on ITT indication
When are the NAV and LOGO lights turned on?
NAV after power is established, LOGO after power is established at night and also during ALL operations under FL180 at night
To allow the flight controls built in test to complete, how long after power up can any hydraulic pump be turned on?
3 minutes
Before selecting ground power (pushing the GPU button in), what should be verified?
Make sure the AVAIL light on the GPU button is illuminated
If AC power is lost, what should be accomplished?
Shut the aircraft down via the Leaving the Airplane checklist and then re-power the aircraft using the Safety and Power Up checklist
What positions should BAT 1 and BAT 2 switches be in, prior to APU start?
BATT 1 should be ON and BATT 2 should be in AUTO
How is AC power transferred from the APU to ground power (GPU/bridge)?
GPU switch/light AVAIL illuminated, GPU button push IN, APU shutdown
What will improve cockpit and cabin cooling on the ground?
AIR COND RECIRC button IN, temp controllers COLD, all gaspers OPEN, window shades CLOSED
What will/may happen if the APU and ground air are used simultaneously?
Conditioned pressure may become excessive
What two PBITs makeup the Flight Control Power Up Built In Test (PBIT)
Electrical and Hydraulic
When is the electrical PBIT automatically performed?
Automatically after power up by any AC source and takes +/-3 minutes to complete
What will interrupt the “ePBIT” test?
Any hydraulic pump running, Flight Control Mode
Panel switches are cycled, AC power interruption
When is the hydraulic PBIT test automatically performed?
When all three hydraulic systems are pressurized for at least one minute with a reservoir temp of +10ºC
What will interrupt the “hPBIT” test?
Movement of any flight control surface
What EICAS message is displayed during the PBIT?
FLT CTRL TEST IN PROG
What does the FLT CTRL BIT EXPIRED, EICAS message mean?
If the last successful PBIT test was more than 50 hours old
Where can the elapsed time between PBITs be found (display/page)?
FLT CTRL synoptic page
If the FLT CTRL BIT EXPIRED message remains after the completion of the hydraulic PBIT (the completion of the flight control power up built in test), what should the flight crew do?
Perform the appropriate (Electric/Hydraulic) PBIT as outlined on 4-2.11 of the ERJ SOPM
When must the hydraulic systems warm-up procedure be accomplished?
Before starting the engines when the reservoir temperatures are below -18ºC
What would cause an airspeed to be displayed on the PFD following (usually the first) power up?
Frozen moisture inside the ADSPs
What EICAS messages will/could be associated with an erroneous airspeed present on the PFD while on the ground?
AFCS FAULT, AT FAIL, AP FAIL, FD FAIL, YD FAIL,
APPR 2 NOT AVAIL, and ADS messages on EICAS
When must the Air Data Smart Probe (ADSP) heater procedure be accomplished?
First flight of the day with OATs below -18ºC (ADSP heat ON, flight control PBIT accomplish, ADSP heat OFF), ensure no airspeed data is displayed on both PFDs and all EICAS messages have cleared
If the ADSP heater procedure does not clear the spurious AFCS (PFD) and ADS EICAS messages, what must be done?
Call MX Control
Prior to starting the external inspection (walk around) what should be set?
Emergency/Parking Brake ON
When must a cold weather preflight inspection be accomplished?
OAT of 5ºC or less, fuel temp of 0ºC or less, conditions conducive to icing exist, and/or any through-flight
where ice may be left of aircraft, or cold soak ice is suspected in fuel tank area!
When might clear ice form on the upper wing surface while on the ground?
High humidity and cold fuel in the tanks
How much frost is permitted on the underwing surface?
1/8” (3mm)
