Ice Detection / Protection Flashcards
1
Q
Bleed air used for?
A
- Engine inlets
- Wings
2
Q
Electric heatings?
A
- ADSP (air data smart probes
- Windshield
- Water lines
3
Q
Engine Anti-Ice system?
A
- High pressure bleed air is tapped to supply the respective engine lip ant-icing protection
- The respective engine ant-ice valve fails to the open position
4
Q
Wing Anti-Ice system?
A
- Belle air is supplied to the 3 outboard leading edge slats on each wing
- If a bleed air source fails, the system automatically opens the cross bleed valve to provide symmetrical ice protection throughout the flight
- Both systems operate auto based on system logic
5
Q
Windshield heating system?
A
- Electrically powered
- When only a single source of power is available
- On the ground the windshield heat is off
- In flight the windshield heat is - Left side ON/Right side off
- Right side will come on if the left should fail
6
Q
Air Data Smart Probe (ADSP)/TAT heating system?
A
- Electrically Powered
- ON when the engine is running
7
Q
Water and waste ice protection system?
A
- Prevents fill drain nipples from freezing
8
Q
How many Ice Detectors?
A
- 2 on left and right side of nose section
- Vibrating frequency changes - Probes heat up
- Wing & Engine Anti-Ice activates - Ice Melts OFF Probes
9
Q
When system activates how long is it on?
A
- Remains on for 2 Minutes after the detectors no longer sense icing conditions
10
Q
How many detections systems are required?
A
- One system can provide protection if the other system is lost.
- If both systems fail the wing and engine anti-ice turn on automatically
11
Q
Windshield heats come on automatically when?
A
- 2 AC power sources are in use
12
Q
Potable water may be dumped how?
A
- Pressing the dump button only dump in flight, will stop if landing gear is extended
13
Q
Does the tail have vertical or horizontal anti-ice system
A
- No
