What is a Malocclusion?
abnormal occlusion [crowding, protruding upper incisors, prominent lower jaw]
What is the ideal Angle’s classification score
[Ideal overjet 2 – 4mm horizontal overlap overbite 50% vertical overlap]
Angle’s classification: Class 1 occlusion
Mesiobuccal cusp of the upper 1st molar lies in the buccal groove of the lower first molar
Angle’s classification: Class 2 Division 1:
lower jaw is too far behind its normal position [worse]
Angle’s classification: Class 2 Division 2
lower jaw is not so far behind its normal position Upper incisors become trapped behind the lower lip teeth erupt upright or retroclined over jet +4mm
Angle’s classification: Class 3 malocclusion mandible
[lower jaw] is too far forward in comparison to the upper maxillary causing incisors biting edge to edge [negative overjet]
What is supernumerary teeth ?
[extra tooth] usually forms in the midline of the upper incisors as mesiodens may prevent a central incisor from erupting
