ORAL COM LG4 Flashcards
Occurs within a single individual,
and is frequently used to explain
ideas or analyze a situation
Intrapersonal Communication
Includes non-verbal cues like tone of
voice, facial expressions, gestures,
and body language in addition to the
words that are actually said, or the
language that is employed.
Interpersonal Communication
Three (3) dimensions of Intrapersonal communication
Self-Awareness
Perception
Expectations
Is the time where
your thoughts, ideas, values, and
attitudes are being shaped.
Self-Awareness
Is the way you see and
perceive others is mediated via your
self-concept.
Perception
Most important life
experiences/concepts, and
reflections.
Expectations
Intrapersonal Skills
Thinking Analytically
Productivity
Resilience
Resourcefulness
is the
ability to evaluate and arrange
information in order to solve
complex problems.
Thinking Analytically
is not just about
getting stuff done; it’s also about
efficiency and consistency. The
ability to get back up more times
than you’ve been knocked down is a
common definition of resilience, but
it’s only one aspect of true resilience.
Productivity
Is the ability to bounce
back fast from losses and keep a
positive attitude might be critical to
your personal and professional
success.
Resilience
is about getting
things done. This is looking at what
you have in front of you and
optimizing it.
Resourcefulness
Stages of Wise and Barker’s Model
Life Orientation
Stimuli
Reception
Discrimination and Regrouping
Ideation
Transmission and Feedback
it controls how
we communicate with one another
and how we receive
communications. “The outcome of
the totality of personal, social, and
genetic elements which have shaped
your growth as an individual.”
Life Orientation
the nerve
impulses that the brain
receives.
Internal stimuli
originates
from your immediate or
nearby environment and
comes from outside your
body.
External stimulus
is when the body first
takes in impulses. Any of the five
senses—sight, sound, smell, touch,
and taste—can be used individually
or in combination during the
receiving process.
Reception
controls which stimuli are permitted
to activate thought. It filters out the
weaker or less important stimuli
Discrimination and Regrouping
is when
the messages are thoroughly
considered, structured, and prepared
Ideation
the
medium in which the messages are
being received. The self-response
communicators via radio waves are
considered external.
Transmission and Feedback
Is the ability to reflect on oneself. It
entails developing knowledge of and
insight into one’s abilities, traits,
flaws, and ideas as well as their
responses, reactions, attitudes,
feelings, and motivations.
Self Awareness
Who’s the real me?
Open Self
Blind Self
Hidden Self
Unknown Area
both the individual and
others are aware

things that others are
aware of but you are not
Blind Self
information that will
remain private to you but not to
others.
Hidden Self
information that
neither you nor others are aware of
Unknown Area
