A

Cause

  • Occlusion of opening prevents drainage
  • Impaction of foreign objects

Symptoms

  • Sudden onset
  • Swelling
  • Redness/tenderness
  • May spread & destroy bone/soft tissue

What are these organisms that can cause problems?

A

S. aureus (0.7-15%) & S. epidermidis (4-65%) (main ones)

  • Aggregatibacter, Porphyromomas, Prevotella
  • Fusobacteria, anaerobic Streptococci
