Optical storage and its properties Flashcards
1
Q
How is each 1 and 0 represented in optical storage?
A
1 is represented as a hole (pit) and 0 is represented as a flat surface (land).
2
Q
How is data read on optical storage?
A
A laser is shone on the surface.
- If it hits land then it will hit a sensor
- If it hits pit then it will reflect elsewhere
- Used to represent 1 and 0.
3
Q
What is optical media used to deliver.
A
Multimedia content like videos.
4
Q
What are the features of optical media?
A
- Great reliability (shock and water proof)
- Portable
- Low cost
- Slow read write speeds because of moving parts
- Low capacity per disk
5
Q
Is it quicker to write data or read data on optical storage?
A
read data
