Flash Memory Flashcards
1
Q
What is flash memory made of?
A
Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM)
2
Q
What is made from EEPROM?
A
ROM (provides the computer with the software needed to start)
3
Q
What are SD cards?
A
- Security Digital card
- Used to increase the capacity in devices such as cameras, phones and tablets
- Provide a high capacity for their physical size
4
Q
What is SSD?
A
- Solid state drive
- Used in home computers because of their performance
- A form of re-writable flash storage.
5
Q
Features of flash memory?
A
- Can be re-written
- Usually fast to access
- they don’t have any moving parts
- Usually high capacity
- Robust (not effected by vibrations so can be used in industrial machines)
- Short life time- can only be written a certain number of times before data is lost. We may lose connection once the flash has degraded past a point. Re-writable devices include several blocks of flash memory so they last longer.
- Non volatile
