Effective decontamination arrangements must be established PRIOR to committing crews UNLESS?
- Urgent life saving rescues.
- To prevent environmental damage.
- To prevent rapid growth in detrimental effects from substances.
In these cases every effort must be made to establish Immeadiate and full decontamination. ASAP
If none of the above apply adopt a defensive approach until DEPU is in attendance and full Decon established.

What should be done with “run off” from incidents involving hazardous materials?
HFRS has adopted a contain all policy until consultation has taken place with the EA and Bureau Veritas.

What is Full Decontamination
Decontamination utilising the equipment from the DEPU and their specially trained personnel.

What is Immeadiate Decontamination?
Utilising equipment carried on front line appliances - for Immeadiate Decon where crews are contaminated from conducting urgent tasks prior to the establishment of Full Decon.

In what order do you decontaminate wearers?
Priority must be given to the wearer with the least air.

What Decon procedure must be used when the DEPU is not in attendance?
Immeadiate Decon
The safe undressing procedure must still be enforced as far as possible using equipment available.

In the event of an injury, decontamination by which ever method is immediately available should be implemented.
The occasions where emergency Decon may be necessary are:-
- where personnel have inadequate protection.
- failure or damage to any part of the LLGTS
- Personal injury
- BA set failure.
- Low on air
- Wearer in distress.

For there to be effective overall command and control, it is imperative that commanders:-
- share and coordinate information and intelligence.
- share situational awareness and ops plans
- have a clear understanding of the priorities and tactics
- convene when necessary incident briefings and updates.
- identified hazards should be communicated
