When is calling an FI appropriate?
- There has been a fatality or serious injury.
- Suspicious nature.
- Significant fire damage or loss.
- Incident considered to be a hate crime.

“Every Fire scene must be considered a possible crime scene until proven otherwise”,
The scene must be preserved by:-
- Change any jets to spray jets.
- Restricting access, using minimum personnel necessary.
- Turning over as little as possible

If the incident is considered:
-There has been a fatality or serious injury.
- Suspicious nature.
- Significant fire damage or loss.
- Incident considered to be a hate crime.
- OIC may request an FI via Control.
- HFRS FI dog is normally required for fatal/ serious injury.
- If OIC needs to speak with an FI on telephone can request through Control.

When a perpetrator targets a victim because of his or her social group, usually defined by racial group, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, nationality, age, gender, gender identity or political affiliation.
