Operations Flashcards
Department Organization and different sections
Operations department is split into how many sections?
Five
What are the different sections of Operations?
Carrier Air Traffic Control Center (CATCC)
Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC)
Combat Direction Center (CDC)
Strike Operations
Carrier Intelligence Center (CVIC)
What two work centers is CATCC comprised of?
Air Operations (AirOps)
Carrier Controlled Approach (CCA)
What is Air Operations responsible for?
Coordinating all matters pertaining to Air Operations including the proper functioning of the CATCC
What are the 5 positions manned during flight operations?
Air Operations Officer
Assistant Air Operations Officer
Air Operations Supervisor
Land/Launch Record Keeper
Plotter
What are the Air Operations Officer’s duties?
The AirOps Officer is responsible to the operations officer for coordination of all matters pertaining to flight operations, the proper functioning of the CATCC and shall determine the type of approach and required degree of control
What are the Assistant AirOps Officer’s duties?
To assist the Air Operations Officer in the performance of his duties and responsibilities.
What is the Air Operations Supervisor responsible for?
For ensuring the correct display of all information in air operations and to coordinate as necessary all bingo/divert aircraft with the appropriate Air traffic control authorities and shipboard entities.
What are the responsibilities of the Land/Launch Record Keeper?
Responsible for updating the ISIS as necessary to ensure that accurate data for each aircraft in a launch/recovery is available.
What does the Plotter do?
The Plotter is responsible for updating the near land and divert field bearing and distance, displaying the weather for the ship and divert fields, and for submitting a pre-launch brief two and a half hours prior to each recovery.
What is the Carrier Controlled Approach (CCA) section of operations responsible for?
They are responsible for the operational control of aircraft departing the ship and recovery of inbound aircraft after mission is complete.
What are the Four positions manned in CCA during flight operations?
Departure Control
Marshal Control
Approach Control
Final Control
What is Departure Control responsible for?
The control of departing aircraft during Case I, II, and III departures.departure control is provided between initial radar contact with aircraft and transfer of control to CDC. This position is also responsible for monitoring the location and package status of tanker aircraft; the location of low State aircraft in there fuel requirements; and may provide positive control during rendezvous between a tanker and a low-state aircraft.
What is Marshal Control responsible for?
For the control of inbound aircraft during case I, II and III operations.
Control is provided between initial contact normally commencing with the pilots check-in report and transfer of control to either pri-fly during Case I operations or to approach control during Case II and III operations
Marshall control provides arrival information establishes the initial interval between aircraft, and monitors the commencement of the approach until a handoff has been completed.
The Marshall stack starts at a point in space, the first aircraft is placed 21 nautical miles behind the ship and at altitude starting at 6000 ft.
What is Approach Control responsible for?
The control of aircraft on approach during Case II and III.
Control is provided between handoff from Marshall and transfer of control to pri- fly during Case II.
Control is transferred to final control during case three operations but approach control retains responsibility for aircraft separation.
Approach control test include making holes for bolter traffic, maintaining the appropriate interval and ensuring the first aircraft makes the ramp time.
