What is NSSMS’s purpose?
NSSMS is a function of the ships ASMD and acts as the ships first hard kill defense against missile attack with the use of the RIM-7 Sea Sparrow missile. Can also be used as an offensive weapon against air and surface attacks.
What does RAM stand for?
Rolling Airframe Missile System
What is RAM’s function?
RAM is a part of the ships ASMD and also defends against missile attacks.
What does RAM consist of?
Two, 21 cell, box launchers (located port- forward, STBD Aft)
And the RIM 116 missile with 25 pound warheads
What are some characteristics of the RIM 116 missile?
The RIM 116 is an extremely fast missile traveling at mach 2.5 out of the launcher; equipped with and infrared/radio frequency seeker head.
Missile has a 3 to 4 nautical mile range.
What is the purpose of the .50 caliber gun mounts?
They provide close in protection against swimmer attack, small boats, and slow moving low flying aircraft
How many .50 gun mounts are there?
There are 10 of them numbered 51-59, in an arrangement that allows 360° coverage.
