If R responds to a 1 of a suit opening with a Jump Raise response in the suit (3 of O’s suit), how likely is the partnership to bid to Game level?
Very likely. If R responds with 3 of O’s opening suit then there is:
- an 8 card fit (to make a Jump Raise R had to have 4 cards) and
- R had to have 10 or 12 pts. Only if O had 13 or 14 points to open would there not be enough points to bid to game (with R’s 11 that were needed to move to 2 of a suit, O only needs 15 for game)
- since an 8 card fit has been identified, both R can count Dummy points when evaluating their hand making Game even more likely.
Responder Raised O’s suit to 3 Level:
O has 15+ points.
What should O’s second bid be?
O’s 2nd bid should be: Bid to Game level
R has shown support but Medium points (10 -12) by raising to the 3 Level.
O has 15+ points (and O’s 15 pls R’s 11 that he needed to raise to the 3 level sums to 26).
Game is likely.
What are the criteria for R to Jump Raise (make a Limit bid) in O’s 1 of a Major Opening?
To Jump Raise O’s 1 of a Major Opening,
R must have:
- 4+ cards in the suit
- 10 to 12 points
